Hartford City
Paper (“HCP”) is a manufacturer of 100%-recycled papers
primarily used in the production of corrugated packaging. HCP produces
a variety of grades; corrugating medium, tube and core stock and
recycled sack kraft. Corrugating medium is the fluting between two
sheets of linerboard forming a corrugated sheet. Tube and core stock
grades are slit into narrow ribbons then wound into cores for use
in the tissue and toweling industries among others. Sack kraft grades
are used in the production of a variety of bags and sacks from shopping
sacks to biodegradable lawn refuse bags.
Located in east-central Indiana, HCP is ideally situated to serve
the large corrugated container industry in the Midwest. While HCP
does supply some large national and international integrated paper
and box companies, HCP’s primary customer base is the independent
corrugated converter. The independent corrugated converter is typically
a smaller, often family-owned, business competing head-to-head with
large multi-national companies. To survive and succeed, these independent
converters must be competitive and responsive to market place demands.
Hartford City Paper has carved out its niche serving this dynamic
and demanding market.
While located at a site that has produced paper for over a century,
HCP utilizes some of the latest technology in its production process.
HCP began production in 1990 as Visy Recycle Inc. Initially producing
175 tons per day, the business has continually reinvested in the
mill and now produces over 350 tons per day. Through HCP Recycling,
the Company’s waste paper collection division, HCP is active
in sourcing and delivering waste paper to the mill. HCP Recycling
currently collects 50% of the mill’s OCC requirements.
